Since its launch, Air Doctor’s smartphone app has been downloaded more than 35.000 times. The Israeli startup has also picked up several awards, including first prize at the Global InsurTech Roadshow 2019 pitch competition in Frankfurt, and was named as one of MassChallenge’s top 10 start-ups of 2018.

Instead of providing a tech solution to reduce insurer’s costs, they re-thought the business concept. Aiming to avoid the need for patients to deal with insurers post-treatment, Air Doctor partnered with Israeli insurer Phoenix to make the process even easier.

In addition to feeling sick, you find yourself in a foreign land, where you may not even speak the language, not to mention know where and how to find the right doctor. Instead of calling the insurance provider or hotel reception and having them refer to the hospital or a random gp. How it works

In case of medical need, travelers can use Air Doctor’s web interface and mobile app to find and book appointments with relevant healthcare providers in their vicinity, including pediatricians, gynecologists, and general physicians.

Who is Air Doctor?
Founded in 2016 in Israel by Jenny Cohen Derfler (CEO), Efrat Sagi-Ofir (COO), Yegor Kurbachov (CTO) and Yam Derfler (Business Development). Air Doctor is active in 28 countries.

While on a trip to South America back in 2014, Yam Derfler – Co-Founder of Air Doctor, fell ill and was treated at a local hospital. The long hours spent in the hospital in addition to the poor treatment led Yam to realize that there had to be a better medical solution for travelers unfamiliar with local medical services.

A quick survey showed that most of his traveler friends who got ill or injured preferred to wait it out rather than see a doctor due to a lack of trust in the local health services. After returning home Yam decided to research the phenomenon deeper and came to the conclusion that his and his friend’s experiences happen way too often. No one should have to be in a situation where they put their health at risk, especially when traveling abroad.

Air Doctor was born in order to give travelers an intuitive and accessible platform to find the right doctor for their needs wherever they might be. By certifying and verifying all doctors and clinics that work with them, users can feel relief in knowing that if need be they have someone trusted to turn to.
